A Death Note Inspired story.

Dan Yagami, a high schooler with a highly creative mind, had always faced ridicule for his giant and outlandish stories. Despite the laughter and people making fun of him, he remained determined to express his creativity. One fateful day, as he walked to school, he stumbled upon a mysterious notebook lying on the ground. The words "Death Note" caught his attention, and a sense of curiosity washed over him like a bunch of waves.

His friend James noticed the book and jokingly asked, "Did you make that, Dan?" Dan replied, uncertain of the notebook's origins, "I don't know what this is." An instinctive feeling compelled him to keep it hidden from everyone. He didn't want to draw any unnecessary attention to it.

"Alright, let's play some Smash Bros when we get home," James suggested, attempting to shift the conversation away from the mysterious notebook. Dan eagerly responded, "You're going to lose again! Meta Knight is overpowered!" James smirked. "Well, Samus is way better. Bros before pros!" The two friends continued their argument and laughter as they made their way to Dan's house.

Once James left, Dan's curiosity got the better of him. He examined the Death Note, its black cover finished with haunting white writing, sending a shiver down his spine. As he read its contents, an eerie sensation filled his gut. The book claimed that writing someone's name within it would result in their death within 40 seconds, allowing the specifier to choose the date and cause of death. If the request was not possible in the time given, the person would die from a heart attack.

Seeing if it was real, Dan decided to test the power of the Death Note by writing the name of a dangerous criminal known as "the Scratcher," aka Bobby Rouge. Amid a bank robbery, the criminal suddenly collapsed, unable to continue his criminal activity. Shocked and terrified, Dan realized the immense power he now possessed. The implications of his actions weighed heavily on his conscience. "What the hell!? I need to hide this. It's too dangerous for anyone to see," he thought.

At that moment, his attention was drawn to a dark figure lurking in the corner. Filled with fear and confusion, Dan screamed, "WHO ARE YOU? WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING?" His mother's concerned voice called out from afar, "Dan, are you alright, honey?" Attempting to collect himself, Dan responded, "Yeah, I'm just seeing things."

The strange creature introduced itself as a god of death and the rightful owner of the Death Note. Dan's mind raced as he contemplated the situation. He realized that with this newfound power, he could eliminate those who committed horrible deeds. A sense of purpose stirred within him, and he pondered the consequences and responsibilities that came with having such extraordinary power.

Dan remembered that his dad had access to a police database, so he found his computer and searched for the most dangerous criminals. With lightning speed, he wrote each of their names in the Death Note. A chilling smile spread across his face as he watched the news reports, witnessing the demise of the criminals, one by one. His descent into darkness and obsession became more apparent with each passing moment.

As days turned into weeks, Dan's sanity began to crumble under the weight of his newfound power. The line between right and wrong blurred, and he abused his ability to choose who lived and who died. He became a manipulator, manipulating fate with his writing of the pen.

The power of life and death.
The power of life and death.

One day, James asked about the Death Note, unaware of the horrors Dan had unleashed. "What did you do with that book, Dan?" James asked innocently. Dan, his face a mask of false words, replied, "I got rid of it. It was a diary for a messed up person." James shivered, visibly uncomfortable with the thought of such darkness.

As if planned, James started to look sick, holding his chest. Concern filled Dan's eyes, but hidden behind the face of worry was a twisted satisfaction. James collapsed, his life slipping away. Dan knew that if someone saw him smiling, they would suspect him of causing it. He quickly switched moods, screaming for help and pretending to be distraught. "HELP, MY FRIEND FAINTED!" he shouted, tears streaming down his face.

Two students rushed to Dan's side, their faces filled with worry. "What happened?" they asked urgently. "He fainted," Dan managed to say between sobs. They called 911, and James was rushed to the hospital. The following day, the school announced James's death, leaving everyone in shock and grief.

When Dan returned home, his mother was talking to James's devastated mother. She looked at Dan, her eyes filled with pain, and began to cry harder. Dan's face appeared depressed, hiding the wicked smile he held within. Deep down, he knew what he had done, and it was all part of his plan. Dan had transformed into a monster, reveling in the power he possessed and the pain he caused.

"Hey what’s happening," One officer asked. "Someone keeps criminals by heart attack?" Another officer responded. "Are you stupid!? Heart attacks aren’t things that come and go!" Lee responded. "Woah it’s Lee, he solved the murder of the Zodiac killer, he’s a genius. "Why is he in a mask and all black?" He said confusingly. "He doesn’t reveal his identity," He said with a laugh. "Hey Lee, how’d you catch the Zodiac killer?" One officer said. I put the clues together, pretty easy," Lee replied. "Wow he’s a genius," They all gasped. "Ok the killer is someone with a police database," He said confidently. "How would you know?" The officers asked. "Because some of those criminals were not revealed to the public," He said. "Like John Williams, he was a shoplifter who was supposed to be on the news two days after he died."

"Who are you? Are you a monster?" Dan asked. "Not more than you are," it replied. "Wow, very funny," he sarcastically said. "Why are you here? Are you my companion or something like that?" "Yeah, I'm a Shinigami." "What's that?" "I told you this yesterday – a god of death. Since you used the book, now I'm your companion. But be cautious, this might lead to bad things." "How the hell would that end badly? I have good karma." "Don't get too confident; you'll see."

"Lee, what have you found so far?" The Chief asked. "The person is either a police officer or the son of one of them." "I will conduct a test to understand the person better. I will 'appear' on a news show, reveal my name, and state that I'm trying to catch Kira. Let's see how this plays out." "Okay, that's a good idea."

"Hi, this is your daily news source, TELECOM NEWS! Today we have THE LEGENDARY LEE! I'm Raye Penber, and I'm on the hunt for the criminal killer, Kira." "If he wants to interfere, I guess he'll die," Dan wrote his name hastily. The person started holding his chest, and then he fainted. "Looks like you can kill people without being there," Lee laughed, hidden behind the black screen. "You're a teenager and the son of a police officer," Lee smirked. "Oh no," Dan sighed.

"Lee, we need to inform you that the national FBI is getting involved. This case is more dangerous than we initially thought." "The more help, the better," Lee smiled from behind his computer. "Let's investigate police officers with teenage sons." "Isn't that a little weird?" "If you want to catch the killer, you need to do whatever it takes." "Okay, we'll see."

When Dan arrived home, he noticed people installing something. "Dad, what is that?" Dan questioned. "Just a new home system," his dad replied. "Okay?" Dan knew they were suspicious of him, so he grabbed a pack of chips, concealed the death note in it, and wrote names while pretending to study. He was clever and a challenging opponent to catch as a criminal, but Lee was equally smart and determined to catch him. While Dan was "studying," they searched for clues but found nothing. "We're sending an FBI agent to investigate Dan and see if he is suspicious." "I thought you said he was clear?" Dan's dad asked. "We need to double-check," Lee responded in a call. Lee never revealed his identity; he kept it secret, just like his butler. "We'll send Sam Yurentol to investigate Dan and the other kid." "Okay, we'll wait and see how this plays out."

Will they find him?
Will they find him?

The next day, Dan noticed a man following him as he walked to school. "Hey, I can see you there," Dan smirked. "I'm just trying to investigate someone in this school," the man replied. "Hey, I'm Dan. Do you want to go out tonight?" "Tonight?" Lisa responded. "Yeah, I don't have any other time." "Sure," Lisa agreed. "Okay, we can meet up at the Starbucks near the school," Dan smiled. His plan was working – he wanted the officer to stop stalking him, as he knew it would be creepy. "Shoot, smart kid," the man thought, disappointed.

Dan and Lisa had a good time talking. Afterward, as Dan returned home, the agent continued to follow him. Before Dan entered the house, he looked at the agent and nodded. Dan thought to himself, "I'll lure him, kill him, and make it look like he's innocent. I'll continue killing FBI agents one by one. If Sam dies first, it'll be suspicious, so I'll arrange the order randomly."

"Lee, do you want any tea, sir?" His butler asked. "No, I'm good," Lee responded, deep in thought. He was contemplating a significant strategy. "Okay, I'll find him. He's smart but naïve. If I fail, let Near handle this. I don't know how he's killing people without being present, but it might involve an assassin or some object."

"What's your name?" Dan asked the figure. "Gelus," the figure replied. "What kind of name is that?" "I guess it's cool." "Where are you from?" "Hell." "Really?" "Dan, who are you talking to?" His mom called from afar. "My friend, I'm calling him on my phone." "I have an offer for you," Gelus said. "I will give you Shinigami eyes in exchange for half of your life." "Why would I do that? If I want to be a god, I want to live forever," Dan smiled. "You are a monster," Gelus whispered. "What?" "Nothing," Gelus responded.

"I need a team," Lee asked. "We have a few police officers," the administration responded. "One of them is Chief Yagami. Now that Dan's dad is on the team, Dan's target has disappeared." "LEE! An agent died, Ray Celus." Dan was starting to execute his plan to get to Lee. While Sam was on the bus to the station, he saw Dan with a girl. He also noticed a suspicious individual with a gun. As the individual raised his hand, Sam screamed, "EVERYONE, GET DOWN!" and fired a shot into the air. Dan remained calm; he knew what had happened and had planned for it. He aimed to appear innocent.

"I'm scared," Lisa shivered. "It's okay, I'll protect you," Dan said calmly. "Hey, kids, I'll cover you. Get out of the bus." "How? The exit is blocked, and the driver's dead." "I'll shoot the emergency exit button, and you run. Got it?" "Yeah," Dan responded. Lisa was too scared to reply after the gunshot. "Don't worry, Lisa. We'll get out of here fast," Dan reassured. Suddenly, the criminal exited the bus to retrieve a bag, then "BOOM." He was run over as he walked to get the bag. Everyone was shocked, and Sam was confused. "Everyone, stay in place!" Sam yelled. He examined the body and confirmed he was truly dead. What had just happened? "Are we okay?" Lisa asked. "I guess," Dan said, still in shock.

News of the incident shocked everyone. Dan escorted Lisa home and then returned home himself. "Dan, are you okay!?" His parents asked, visibly shaken. "I'm fine," he said confidently. "I heard there was an FBI agent on the bus with you," his dad mentioned. "Yeah, there was a guy in a uniform, like from the FBI." "Okay, son, I'm glad you're safe," his dad sighed. As Dan entered his room, he found his shinigami waiting. "Well, the plan went well, another step towards a perfect world," Dan said. "Now I might as well kill the FBI. I'll start killing them one by one," Dan smiled.

"Lee, what should we do? One of the agents died." "Who was it?" "Dave Lenerd, the agent investigating one high school student, Ben." "We need to double-check Ben, search his room for any clues," Lee said. "Hey, this is the NYPD. We have a permit to inspect Ben Shinder's room. He is suspected of murdering FBI agent Dave Lenard." "What FBI agent?" a voice responded. "I didn't see any FBI agent," the voice, probably a kid, said. The kid opened the door, looking confused. "You guys can come in. Explain to me what's happening."

The agents nodded and entered. "So, how does his murder involve me?" "An FBI agent was investigating you to see if you were Kira," one of the agents explained. "What FBI agent? I didn't see any." "Well, he might have been hidden." "We still have to check the house." "Okay, just don't break anything or wake up my mom; she gets cranky when she's woken up." "Okay, we'll try not to," the agent smiled. When the agents left, the boy searched "Kira" online and was shocked by what he found – a series of murder cases with people dying of heart attacks and other creative methods.

"I'll try to kill another agent and place a fake Death Note in the backpack of the person he was investigating (Ben Riley). This will lead them to put him in jail, and I can continue confusing the police by killing criminals. The next day, he discreetly placed a normal-looking notebook with the same ominous feel as the original. Then he scheduled the agent who inspected Ben Riley to die.

His plan is in action.
His plan is in action.

The plan was in motion. He put the notebook in the backpack, wrote the agent's name, and watched as events unfolded. He chuckled as he saw Ben being interrogated, suspected of being Kira. He had successfully deceived the police, bringing him a step closer to his vision of a perfect society.

“Wow, this is entertaining,” Ryuk chuckled. Dan started smiling and laughing. Ryuk was intimidated and frightened at what Dan had become. When he was walking to the police station to drop off some clothes for his dad, he saw a lady talking with the person at the counter. Dan heard the conversation and said “I think I know who Kira is, he was on the bus where my husband was,” Then Dan interfered and asked if the person at the counter could give him the clothes. “Oh you’re the chief’s son, didn’t you help solve a few puzzling crimes,”

The man at the checkout asked. “Yes it wasn’t that hard,” Dan smiled.

After Dan gave the clothes he approached the lady. “Hey I heard you talking about Kira, I’ve been investigating him as well,” Dan replied. “I don’t know what his motive is but it’s gone to a very bad side,” Dan said. “Yeah my husband was affected, we were going to dinner that day and he said he needed to get some files from his office,” She started sobbing. “Then I got a call from the FBI association that he had died,” “I’m sorry to hear that, were there hints as to who did it?” Dan then whipped out a piece of paper and she started talking. “By the way, I’m Yagami Dan, you?” “I’m Jen, Jen Henstridge.”

Dan started writing her name on the death note “suicide” “One day my husband was on a bus and there was someone who was probably Kira. He coincidentally was on a bus with a hijacker that got run over, that's kinda suspicious that these things happened so closely,” She said. It had been 40 seconds, why was she not dead yet? A fake name. “Anyway I’m going to the task force right away to tell them about this, then Kira will be found,”

“Don’t!” Dan accidentally blurted out. “Why is something happening there,” “No it’s just because of the Kira case there are fewer people and the people who didn’t quit are working on the Kira case,” “How do you know this?” “To tell you the truth, I’m a task force member, so I could give your name to the headquarters so they could go further with this case,” Dan smirked behind his serious face. “So the name I told you that Jen was my name, it’s not my name,” She said. “My name is Rayleigh Yurentol, I used to work with Lee.” Dan was in shock, He managed to trick one of Lee’s coordinates, is this what a god feels like? Dan hastily wrote the details and smiled, he wrote for her to commit suicide. “I’m Kira.” Dan began laughing. His plan worked. She then walked to her apartment and hung herself.

“Lee, you’re subordinate Rayleigh died, she committed suicide 2 days ago,” Lee spit his drink out. “She wouldn’t do something like that,” Lee questioned. “What happened? “She was last seen with Dan, the chief’s son.” “I'm going to his house directly," Lee’s caretaker was confused. This might get Lee killed along with his caretaker. “Sir I don’t know what you’re thinking but as you say,” “Without a disguise,” Lee said, happily.

“KNOCK, KNOCK!” Dan was home alone, his dad was at work, and his mom was going shopping with his sister. When he went to the door he saw a tall slim figure in a cloak. As the figure introduced himself as Lee, Dan's heart raced with a mixture of fear and excitement. He invited Lee inside, trying to maintain a calm façade despite the turmoil within him. Lee, seemingly unperturbed, entered the house and glanced around as if assessing the surroundings.

The skulls get closer.
The skulls get closer.

"Dan Yagami, isn't it?" Lee inquired, his face giving away nothing. "I've heard interesting things about you." Dan, attempting to hide his nervousness, responded, "Yeah, that's me. What brings you here?" Lee paused for a moment before revealing, "I've been investigating the recent Kira cases, and some information led me to you. Your involvement with the FBI agent deaths and the mysterious occurrences on the bus caught my attention." Dan, maintaining his facade, replied, "I don't know what you're talking about. I'm just a high school student." Lee's eyes narrowed as he continued, "Interesting choice of words, considering the recent suicides and deaths surrounding you. I have a few questions for you." Dan felt the weight of Lee's scrutiny, but he maintained his composure, saying, "Ask away. I've got nothing to hide." Lee began questioning Dan about the events surrounding the FBI agent, the bus incident, and the recent suicides. Dan, skilled in deception, wove a convincing tale, steering the conversation away from his involvement. However, Lee remained composed, his sharp mind analyzing every word and gesture. As the interrogation continued, Dan's confidence wavered. Lee seemed to see through the lies, leaving Dan on edge. The tension in the room reached its peak when Lee finally confronted him directly. "I know about the Death Note, Dan," Lee declared, his voice unwavering. "I know you've been using it to manipulate events and eliminate those you deem deserving of death." Dan's heart skipped a beat. He had been exposed. Panic and fear surged through him, but he attempted to salvage the situation. "I don't know what you're talking about. You have no proof." Lee, unmoved, produced a small notebook from his pocket. "I've seen this before. I know its power." Dan's mind raced as he realized Lee held a Death Note. The tables had turned, and he was now at the mercy of someone equally aware of the notebook's capabilities. "Now, Dan, we can do this the easy way or the hard way," Lee said calmly. "You can come with me and face the consequences, or we can escalate this further. The choice is yours." Caught in a web of his own making, Dan had to decide his fate. The room hung in suspense, awaiting his response to the revelation that had finally brought him face to face with the consequences of his actions. He was puzzled, he didn't know what to do. "Ryuk, GIVE ME THE EYES!" The transformation was swift and unsettling, and in an instant, Dan's eyes took on a demonic hue. As Dan's eyes boiled into a bloody red, a sinister smile etched across his face, he laughed demonically,

Lee, taken aback by the sudden events, watched in astonishment as Dan's appearance shifted into something more malevolent. The room darkened, and an eerie energy permeated the air. Unbeknownst to Lee, Dan had made a desperate bid for more power, willing to sacrifice his humanity.

As Dan, now transformed, hastily scrawled Lee's name in the Death Note, a cruel smile played on his lips. However, before the pen could finish its last stroke, Dan felt an excruciating pain in his chest. He collapsed to the ground, convulsing in agony.

"He's dead," Lee declared to Dan's father, who had been hiding in the closet, witnessing the macabre scene unfold.

Death knocked on his door.
Death knocked on his door.

Lee, though victorious in uncovering the truth, felt a chill run down his spine. The Death Note's power had claimed Dan, turning him into a grotesque spectacle of his demise. The room, once a battleground of secrets, now housed the lifeless form of the one who had sought to play god.

Silence descended upon the room, broken only by the heavy breaths of those left behind. Lee, now grappling with the aftermath, realized the extent of the darkness that lurked within the power of the Death Note. The consequences of the choices made in the pursuit of justice weighed heavily on the hearts of those who remained, and the shadows of the supernatural and the human intertwined, leaving scars that could not easily be erased.

The lives couldn't be taken back, and the dead stayed dead, despite all the work they did. When Dan's mom and sister came home his dad greeted them with a somber expression. "We caught Kira, he's inside," They were confused, what did he mean? As his sister went to get the bags of clothing her mom fell to the ground crying. The sister confused, went to comfort her and saw the dead body of her brother. Laying as still as a tree, white and pale.
